One Love is a student run service organization at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. One Love's goal is to help people weave a common thread of love throughout all aspects of their life. In the heart of our downtown sits an abandoned greenhouse that was once a bustling garden center, housing vibrant plant species. For the last seven years, it has sat dormant as a reminder of what once was, and what could still be. Over the last few months, a group of forward thinkers from area organizations have come together with a vision to recreate this greenhouse into a food hub focused on sustainability, education, and business development. Our greenhouse will be about community engagement, modeling innovative reuse of materials, showcasing approaches to growing and adding value to food, providing local business incubation, and creating an educational environment for all of Central Wisconsin; all while running on 100% renewable energy.

G-Star School of the Arts is an 1,100-student charter school in West Palm Beach, Florida. G-Star students are some of the brightest and most talented students in the county, and as a teacher I have seen first-hand how responsible, supportive and influential they can be. Our teens have the ability to raise awareness and promote positive living. Their task is simple: each day a new duty will be announced (much like those of the GOOD Challenge). They will be given a list of the 30 items (example: high five 10 students during lunch), which they will check off after each is completed. Students who complete all 30 tasks will be invited to a school dance at the end of the month. I believe this will create a sense of community within the school.

The funds of this challenge would help cover the printing costs of the showcased images, advertising and the costs for the opening showcase. All the images would be from our blog, thesimplegood.com, whose overall theme is to appreciate the little things and understand how the most fundamental good is what connects us as human beings all over the world. The opening showcase will be a community event focusing on not only the simple good in the displayed images but also the good in our own city of Chicago. We will be featuring various organizations that are bringing good into the community through music, theater, discussion, food and more. We hope to create an event of good emotions, people and discussion whose impact goes beyond that night.

These funds will help me entice farmers, who are especially busy during the month of October, to spend some of their limited time with students. They will be asked to bring produce from their farms into the schools so that students will be able to taste some delicious eats, and learn that eating healthily is fun and delicious. The farmers will need to be compensated for their travel expenses and the food that they provide. Flint is plagued with high rates of obesity and diabetes. Over 80% of students in this city qualify for free and reduced lunch. Any activity that will encourage them to understand where their food comes from will help them develop healthy eating habits for the long term! Please help me make my idea into a reality!

Each package contains a ceramic mug, a pint of chicken-flavored (both vegetarian and Kosher) soup, cough drops, tea, and more "get-well-soon" goodies, all in a reusable tote bag! Packages can be delivered to students dorming at any of Columbia University's undergraduate schools for the low price of $8. We are reaching out to the entire student body with promotional "Shot of Soup" events, where small cups of soup are handed out, along with information, in central locations. We hope to lower our package price to $5 with this grant, to increase accessibility to our package. Finally, we want to begin to donate some of our revenue to charity organizations (ie soup kitchens) & with this grant, we will have enough funds to begin this endeavor.

Participants get the menu/ingredients/date/sign up info at our website. On event night, they watch a live web-streamed communal dinner with an SF chef showing everyone how to cook the meal. The chef shares dinner with food activists as they discuss ways to help end hunger in the Bay Area. Online participants are encouraged to host dinner parties and Twitter questions and feedback that the chef's table discusses further. Participants will be asked to make a donation during the evening to San Francisco's Homeless Prenatal Program. The $500 will cover food costs for the chef's dinner (chef + 8-10 guests), streaming the event and promoting the event. The meal will include a meat, vegetarian and vegan option. A blueprint for more!

In partnership w/ USC, green architect Polly Osborne, the community center is designed to contain a health center, school, vocational training and farming. This is one of a series of fundraisers we have held throughout LA. For this particular event we are getting the food donated from the Silverlake Farmer's Market to be prepared by Eugene Ahn & crew of Forage, water from NIka Water, beverage service from groundwork, coconut water from KeVita, decor by the kids of Larchmont Charter, music by Makina Loca and dj Julie Gandolfo. The $50/person ticket revenue augmented by an auction w/ brilliant items from generous people around LA. KId guests (free!) will decorate t-shirts for their pals in Africa. $500 would go directly to the project.

My plan is to get to know my neighbors (and get them to know each other) through curbside composting. The $500 will go toward 36 “compost kits” for every apartment, given out during a rooftop potluck. Everyone will receive an invitation to attend and receive their kit. The kits will include a small composting bucket, biodegradable trash bags, and an illustrated “how to compost” booklet drawn by me. How do I know this will work? I don’t. But I do know Oakland, and I know the people who live here love their city and want to make it a better place. They want to be involved in the community are willing to give new good things a shot. And I think the best place to start is with your neighbor in the elevator, hopefully taking out the compost.

Last winter a group of us gathered to listen to the story of singer-songwriter Robbie Schaefer, and how he’s followed his passion for music. We were so inspired by his story that we gave back with our own creative passions - through music, storytelling, and food - and threw a fundraiser for his nonprofit, OneVoice: bit.ly/nNpxIs Now it’s time to broaden our efforts and our community. To renew each others' enthusiasm, to spark some new journeys, and to help sustain others, we’re hosting a day long Passion Project gathering. People can share their passions with others, hear success stories, and connect in ways both expected and unexpected. Funds will offset space and food expenses. Interested? Connect with our social network: bit.ly/qN5SlH

We are a start up fashion line called peaceBOMB: jewelry made by Laotian artisans from Vietnam bombs and scrap metal. As a social business, we work with artisans and consumers to help them do what they already do—create and consume—but with added value. PeaceBOMB supports artisan livelihoods and raises awareness about the "Secret War" in Laos and its legacy as the most heavily bombed country in history; 30% of the 2 million tons of bombs dropped did not explode, causing injury and death to civilians today. PeaceBOMB bracelets benefit the artisan community and raise funds to clear unexploded bombs. We will show the 10 min doc at the meetup and use $500 to cover the cost of bracelets for 50 people who will start wearing and sharing the story.

Fast Fashion stores (like H&M, Zara, & more) pump out new, cheaply made, environmentally damaging, & 'disposable' trends every 4-6 weeks -- Slow Fashion aims to educate people to make wiser choices. The Boulder/Denver chapter of the Slow Fashion Movement wants to use the $500 to host a local Slow Summit and Fashion Show to discuss important issues facing consumers such as: current economic climate, environmental impact of fast fashion, sustainable choices through conscious consumption, and showcase slow & local fashion possibilities through a chic fashion show. The money would afford renting event space, staging, decor, & etc.

TSIC of Sarasota County would use the $500 of funding to spread the awareness of our program and how crucial the need for mentors is. Mentors are the heart and soul of Take Stock. The reason for our 93% success rate of sending students to college is because our mentors help the students become positive role-models in the community. The money would go towards advertisements calling out for Mentors and Mentor Forums to help educate those interested in helping our future.

“Benevolent Media Creators” are invited to host and organize their own lectures, workshops, performances, networking events or other activities, at multiple venues across the city. We're doing our best to get pro bono support, in-kind donations and volunteer organizers. But an extra $500 will help us pay for all operating costs and ensure that we reach the widest audience possible, while giving back to the community. Costs may include: - web hosting and maintenance for online agenda and blog - venue space for events, i.e. panel discussions, film screenings, photo exhibits - marketing materials, i.e. postcards, buttons, programs - art supplies and multimedia equipment for projects - snacks, drinks and small "thank you" gifts

Many living on the street are doing so as a result of Trauma, PTSD, and Addiction related issues. Regardless of the type, there is a common theme shared by all. The need for personal safety, space and boundaries. Boston area yoga community will come together to connect to those, living on the streets; and will offer to them "the 24x68 self care kit": toiletries, rolled up inside the yoga mat, while the mat itself could also be used as a message board listing local services and places to seek refuge and help. Bringing the meaning of union and connection back into yoga. The fund will be used to organize community distribution events to follow the 1st one at the Boston Common park on October 9th.

Folk Art Bike Rides have happened before, but never with the intention of transforming the bikes into art themselves. We will invite an artist to guide the workshop, provide materials and then set out on our ride where we'll visit other examples of folk art and hear from artists along the way. Funds will be used to bring on a skilled artist, pay for materials and marketing and offset the cost of food. Folk Art Bike Rides are part of Folk Art Everywhere, a project of the Craft and Folk Art Museum. The rides have involved touring different LA neighborhoods and visiting arts and cultural centers. We want to kick the rides up a notch and encourage riders to bring creativity into the everyday, while learning more about the city and each other.
